DOJ says no evidence found that President Trump was wiretapped by Obama

Washington, DC, United States (NewsBahn) – The Justice Department has indicated there is no proof that President Donald J. Trump was under surveillance by his predecessor in the office of the highest land in the nation, Barack Obama.

Trump made the claim in March but a “Motion for Summary Judgment” filed Friday in D.C. district court indicated neither the FBI nor the Justice Department’s National Security Division have records to back the latest president in that assertion.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my “wires tapped” in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” tweeted the current president on March 4.

“How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!” Trump also tweeted.

The motion, a response to a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit by American Oversight, a government watchdog group, does not “confirm or deny” the existence of other records pertaining to the matter, however.

“Both FBI and NSD confirm that they have no records related to wiretaps as described by the March 4, 2017 tweets.” the filing states.

Trump officials said the current president was troubled that foreign officials that may have intercepted his officials’ communications and they were “unmasked” or identified to Obama intelligence personnel.

Following Friday’s revelations. White House spokesman Sarah Huckabee Sanders wrote in an email: “This isn’t news. We have already addressed it.”
