Atlanta, GA, United States (4E) – Separate polls released Monday by CNN and The Washington Post-ABC show president Donald Trump’s approval rating as being the worst among all U.S. presidents and reveal that most Americans disapprove of the way he’s doing the job.

The CNN poll shows Trump’s approval rating at its lowest point in CNN’s polling. Just 36% of respondents said they approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, according to the CNN poll conducted by SSR.

This figure was worse by one percentage point than Trump’s previous low of 37% in October. Disapproval of the president also reached a new high at 58%. The poll said 48% strongly disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job.

On the other hand, The Washington Post-ABC poll show that 59% of respondents disapprove of Trump’s handling of the presidency, which is the worst of any president at nine months in office since modern polling began

Among those that disapprove, 50% said they do so strongly while only 37% of those polled approve of Trump’s performance.

Respondents to the CNN poll raised strong concerns about contacts between Trump’s presidential campaign and the Russian following the first indictments from Special Counsel Bob Mueller, Jr. investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

CNN said six in 10 respondents think Trump knew his campaign associates met with suspected Russian spies while two-thirds saw Russian interference in the election.

Fewer and fewer people now see Mueller’s Russia investigation as an effort to discredit Trump’s presidency.

Almost six in 10 (59%) think Trump himself knew last year that anyone associated with his campaign had contact with suspected Russian operatives. Only 35% think Trump didn’t know about those contacts.

The poll also found broader support for a full investigation into Russia’s efforts to influence the election, while more said they consider Russian meddling.

The poll showed 64% saying the investigation into Russian efforts to influence the presidential election is a serious matter that should be fully investigated. Just 32% see it as an effort to discredit Trump’s presidency.

According to The Washington Post-ABC News poll, Trump is the first president since Harry Truman to see a net-negative approval nine months into his term.

A majority of those polled think Trump accomplished “little or nothing” during his first nine months in office. Less than four in 10 respondents believe he kept most of his major campaign promises.

Prior to his inauguration, 61% thought Trump would do an excellent or good job on the economy. Only 44% feel that way today.

Fifty-six percent expected he’d do good work dealing with terrorism, while only 43% say he’s doing so now. Expectations on Trump’s handling of race relations fell 12%. It fell by 18% as to whether Trump can improve the health care system.

Fifty-three percent say America’s leadership in the world has gotten weaker under Trump compared to 26% that say it’s gotten stronger.
