Phoenix, AZ, United States (4E) – Steve Wozniak, the genius co-founder of Apple, Inc. who developed and assembled the first Apple computers that Steve jobs just sold, announced on Oct. 13 the launch of “Woz U,” a tech education platform that seeks “to identify and develop elite tech talent.”
Founded by Wozniak, the technical brains behind Apple and based in Arizona, Woz U will start as an online learning platform that will eventually hire the students it graduates. Woz U hopes to launch educational institutions for learning in more than 30 cities around the world.
The curriculum at Woz U will focus on training computer support specialists and software developers, and will feature courses on data science, mobile applications and cybersecurity.
Its website says Woz U provides a personalized approach to coding and tech education designed to get students through the curriculum faster so “they can get into the workforce quicker, and start changing the world. Just like Steve did.”
Woz U will specialize in technology and career-based programs designed to get people into the workforce quickly and affordably. It also wants to inspire the next generation of innovators and developing the workforce of the future.
With expertise from Exeter Education, students at Woz U will learn the skills necessary to build successful careers within the technology industry. Woz U is considered part of Southern Careers Institute (SCI) and will continue to partner with other colleges and institutions as it grows.
“Woz U. Education. Reprogrammed” is the school’s motto.
Woz U will also offer platforms that will allow tech companies to recruit, train and retain their workforce through customized programs and subscription-based curricula. There also will be a platform for K-12 students that will offer STEAM programs to identify talent.
Woz U will offer an app to help people understand which field of tech they’re best suited for, so they can set up their curriculum accordingly.
Wozniak, 67, revealed that Jobs played no role in the design of the Apple I and Apple II computers and “just wanted to be important.”
“Steve Jobs played no role at all in any of my designs of the Apple I and Apple II computer, and printer interfaces, and serial interfaces, and floppy disks and stuff that I made to enhance the computers.
“He did not know technology. He wanted to be important, and the important people are always the business people. So that’s what he wanted to do.”
Apple 1 is the world’s first real desktop computer and was hand built by Wozniak in a garage in 1976.
