Cambridge, England, United Kingdom (4E) – Sounding more like a doomsayer but Professor Stephen Hawking has warned that the end is nearer than what others may think. He urged that humanity must leave the planet and “boldly go where no one has gone before.”
The world’s renowned physicist said the world will end in a catastrophic fashion: a “ball of fire” will engulf the Earth.
Hawking said overpopulation and undeterred energy consumption are the major drivers bringing the Earth to an apocalyptic ending 600 years from now. The warning is part of Hawking’s video message to the 2017 Tencent WE Summit on November 5 in Beijing.
A “ball of fire” will bring an end to everything, he said.
The British celebrated physicist, in the same video message, had urged mankind to save itself.
Mankind, he said, must escape to space to escape the coming apocalyptic end. To do this, he proposed an interstellar space travel – a revolutionary idea enabling man to travel near the speed of light.
“The idea behind this innovation is to have the nanocraft ride on the light beam,” he said.
Travelling near the speed of light, mankind could reach Mars in an hour “or reach Pluto in days, pass Voyager in under a week and reach Alpha Centauri in just over 20 years.”
The only way to survive is to leave planet Earth, he said.
