Cupertino, CA, United States (4E) – Barely one week old into the world, the newly-released iPhone X is having a good time except for one issue: it becomes unresponsive outdoor under the cold.
The new iPhone, unlike other smartphone designs, has no blocker issues so far. Its only downside is the possible OLED burn-ins. Apple had already warned of this.
One Reddit user, however, said the “iPhone X screen becomes very unresponsive as soon as I step outside.” It took for the user a couple of seconds to step outside and the “screen stops being responsive.”
“I try swiping on websites and it doesn’t register my finger. It’s very noticeable,” the user reported. A number of people had also reported the same issue with their iPhone X, which could be disturbing as the winter season is just around the corner.
The company had already advised not to bring the iPhone x outside of its comfort zone. Exposure outside the range of 0 degrees to 35 degrees could be an issue for the new iPhone. Freezing on its screen was never mentioned by Apple.
Yet Apple was quick to respond. In The Loop, the company said: “using an iOS device in very cold conditions outside of its operating range might temporarily shorten battery life and could cause the device to turn off.”
“The battery life will return to normal when you bring the device back to higher ambient temperatures,” it added.
Nevertheless, the company had promised to fix the issue through a software update, which will be available soon especially that winter is near.
